Sci. STKE, 30 April 2002 PERSPECTIVESOpening Pandora's Box: Clinical Data and the Study of Complex DiseasesComputational Biology, Abramson Family Cancer Research Center, University of Pennsylvania Cancer Center, Philadelphia, PA 19104-6160, USA. Summary: Complex diseases have complex phenotypes, and proper diagnosis requires that the analysis take into account the patient's history and exposure to environmental factors, as well as genetic information. Signaling information is one aspect of a grander "biomedical informatics" approach advocated for a better understanding of a patient's medically relevant disease phenotype. *Contact information: Telephone, 215-746-5570; fax, 215-573-2486; e-mail, liebmanm{at}mail.med.upenn.edu
