G PROTEIN-COUPLED RECEPTORS Signaling in Sepsis

Normally, the activated protein C has a protective role in sepsis, but the mechanism has not been known. Riewald et al. find that the thrombin receptor (protease activated receptor, or PAR1) is the target for activated protein C signaling. This mechanism provides insights into the signaling pathway of immune modulatory chemokines that control the host defense system in sepsis.
