Sci. STKE, 18 January 2005 TEACHING RESOURCESCalcium-Triggered Exocytosis and Clathrin-Mediated Endocytosis of Synaptic VesiclesThierry Galli1* and Volker Haucke2*
1Membrane Traffic and Neuronal Plasticity Group, INSERM U536, Institut du Fer-à-moulin, 75005 Paris, France. Abstract: The animation illustrates the recruitment, calcium-triggered exocytosis, and clathrin-mediated endocytosis of synaptic vesicles. The animation shows not only the proteins involved in synaptic vesicle fusion and recycling, but also changes in the lipid composition that are important for targeting of proteins to sites of membrane internalization. The animation would be useful in both neurobiology courses, but also any cell biology course that explores clathrin-mediated endocytic and calcium-regulated secretion events. *Corresponding authors.
