Department of Oncological Sciences, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, NY 10029, USA.

Abstract: This Teaching Resource provides lecture notes and slides for a class covering the mechanism and regulation of eukaryotic gene transcription machinery and is part of the course "Cell Signaling Systems: A Course for Graduate Students." This lecture begins with an overview of eukaryotic gene transcription and provides discussions regarding the current models of mechanisms of transcription by RNA Polymerase II (Pol II). Recent views on the action of Mediator will also be discussed. Finally, a detailed study will be presented to provide evidence for a role for enhancer-promoter communication in gene activation.
