1 Institute of Molecular Systems Biology, ETH Zurich, 8093 Zurich, Switzerland. Abstract: This is a conversation with Bernd Bodenmiller and Ruedi Aebersold about a Research Article published in the 21 December 2010 issue of Science Signaling. Bodenmiller and Aebersold describe the effect that targeted removal of individual kinases and phosphatases had on the yeast phosphoproteome. Their study revealed changes in phosphoproteins that were not direct substrates of the targeted enzymes and demonstrated that the network of kinases and phosphatases is surprisingly robust.
