Description Slides and a movie are provided for a class covering the structure and function of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and both are part of the course “Cell Signaling Systems: A Course for Graduate Students.” The slides begin with a discussion of the crystal structure of rhodopsin and G protein and then proceed to describe the molecular mechanisms of receptor activation and the subsequent release of G proteins. The movie is provided with permission from Park et al. [Biochemistry 43, 15643-15656 (2004), copyright 2004 American Chemical Society]. The movie requires the DivX plug-in and shows activation of inactive G protein following interaction with GPCR dimers using space-filling structures for each molecule. The movie may also be accessed from the Biochemistry site (http://pubs3.acs.org/acs/journals/supporting_information.page?in_coden=bichaw&in_volume=43&in_start_page=15643) or here, using the link below.
