STKE, 25 July 2000 EDITORS' CHOICECell Biology Refilling the StoresG proteins (proteins that bind GTP, guanosine 5'-triphosphate) are involved in vesicle endocytosis and exocytosis in a variety of non-neuronal cells. Takahashi et al. analyzed the contribution of G proteins to fast synaptic neurotransmitter release. They introduced several nonhydrolyzable GTP analogs into the giant nerve terminals at the calyx of Held. The rate of recovery from synaptic depression was significantly influenced by these analogs.
