Enhanced: The Right Time and Place for Making Flowers

Although plants respond to environmental conditions such as daylight by signaling mechanisms in their leaves, they coordinate this response to the production of flowers in their shoots. This has long been thought to be accomplished by a motile signal that travels between the two locations. In his Perspective, Blázquez discusses three studies that have determined molecular and genetic details of this coordinated signaling effort and have further identified the elusive motile signal.
