BILIARY ATRESIA

Bile duct injury marker to the rescue

Lertudomphonwanit et al. report that the matrix metalloproteinase MMP-7 is released into the serum upon bile duct injury, promotes inflammation, and may be an early diagnostic marker for biliary atresia in infants.

IMMUNOTHERAPY

A tale of two receptors

Yang et al. demonstrate that engagement of T cell receptors (TCRs) promotes exhaustion and suppresses the efficacy of CD8, but not CD4, CAR T cells because of inherent differences in their use of T cell–associated signaling pathways.
