The phototropism response of plants directs growth toward light sources. Motchoulski and Liscum have now identified and characterized one of the early molecular components, NPH3, that Arabidopsis uses to respond to blue light. The NPH3 protein interacts with the NPH1 photoreceptor and may function as a scaffold that brings together the various molecular components responsible for the initial phototropic response to blue light.
