STKE introduces a new feature called an "E-conference" within the Forums section of the site. The current E-conference is titled "Defining Calcium Entry Signals." With the outstanding assistance of conference chairs Don Gill and Randen Patterson, we have enlisted a group of leading experts on receptor-induced calcium entry signals to participate in a "virtual conference" at STKE. The E-conference is designed to focus upon current understanding on the function, control, and role of calcium entry signals in mammalian cells. One central question to be addressed is how calcium entry channels are activated in response to depletion of calcium from stores. Likewise, it is critical to know which channels contribute to such calcium entry. All STKE readers are encouraged to read the comments posted by the invited participants and to add their own comments and questions to the ongoing discussion.
