This Podcast features a conversation with the senior author of a Research Article published in the 9 August 2011 issue of Science Signaling. Lau et al. examined how signaling through μ-type opioid receptors (MORs) differs between receptor activation by the endogenous opioid peptide enkephalin and activation by the partial agonist morphine. The authors found that these ligands induced differential phosphorylation of the MOR C-terminal tail, which, in turn, differentially regulated receptor endocytosis and therefore activity.
