Summary

The nematode is a simple organism that has proved invaluable for studying cell fate decisions during development. In his Perspective, Sternberg discusses new work ( Yoo et al. ) showing that cooperation between the EGF and LIN-12 signaling pathways determines the fates adopted by vulval precursor cells during vulval development in the nematode.
