COVER This week's issue features a Research Article that investigated the mechanisms of activation for the muscle receptor tyrosine kinase (MuSK), which dictates where neuromuscular junctions form. The authors demonstrated that the cytoplasmic protein Dok-7 primes MuSK for further activation by its extracellular activator, agrin. The image shows a diaphragm muscle mount from wild-type embryo mouse that was stained for the cytoskeletal protein neurofilament (green), synaptophysin in presynaptic terminals (also in green), and acetylcholine receptors at postsynaptic membranes (red).
