COVER This week's issue features a Review that describes the cell-specific responses mediated by the scavenger receptor CD36. CD36 binds diverse ligands, such as the matrix protein thrombospondin, long-chain fatty acids, and oxidized phospholipids and lipoproteins, and regulates processes such as angiogenesis, innate immune responses, fatty acid metabolism, and sensory responses to fatty acids. The image shows an artist's rendition of CD36 in the plasma membrane. [Image: Preston Huey, AAAS]
