ONLINE COVER This week's issue features a Research Article that demonstrates how insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) stimulates the modification of its receptor (IGF-1R) by small ubiquitin-like modifier (SUMO) proteins. SUMOylated IGF-1R then translocates to the nucleus, where it acts as a transcriptional regulator. The image shows the structure of human IGF-1R (based on PDB 1K3A), with the three critical lysine residues that are targeted for SUMOylation highlighted in red. [Image: Chris Bickel, AAAS] |
