ONLINE COVER This week features a Research Article describing the phosphoproteomic signals and transcriptional changes that allow an injured neuron to switch from a "growth as normal" mode to an "injury response" mode. Michaelevski et al. combined phosphoproteomic analyses of injured and uninjured rat sciatic nerve with microarray analyses of transcripts in the dorsal root ganglia to identify retrograde signaling networks implicated in activating the transcriptional response to axonal injury. The image shows a dorsal root ganglion responding to a distal injury. [Image: Yana Greenman, AAAS] |
