Online Cover This week features a Research Article showing that ischemia-dependent changes in the abundance of transporters that regulate drug distribution between the brain and the blood depended on apolipoprotein E (ApoE) signaling through its receptor ApoE receptor–2 (ApoER2). Their work suggests that inhibition of this ApoE-to-transporter pathway could enable the enhanced delivery of drugs to the brain following stroke. The image shows that the localization of ApoER2 is in brain endothelial cells (red), where it is predominantly localized on the abluminal surface, between the luminal endothelial membrane (green) and the astrocytic endfeet (blue).
