ONLINE COVER This week's issue features a Research Article that demonstrates a mechanism whereby inhibitory receptors that contain immunoreceptor tyrosine-based activation motifs (ITAMs), such as FcαRI, associate with the phosphatase SHP-1 in lipid rafts and recruit activating receptors, such as FcεRI, into intracellular compartments called "inhibisomes." Localization into inhibisomes prevented the activating receptors from signaling. The image shows a three-dimensional reconstitution of confocal imaging of inhibisomes in cells, consisting of FcαRI molecules (red), FcεRI molecules (green), and SHP-1 (blue).
