ONLINE COVER This week features a Research Article that presents screens of the genes encoding tyrosine kinases in two filasterean species, Capsaspora owczarzaki and Ministeria vibrans, which are unicellular, eukaryotic organisms. The findings suggest that cytoplasmic tyrosine kinases, but not receptor tyrosine kinases, diversified before the establishment of multicellular organisms. The image shows M. vibrans.
