ONLINE COVER This week features a Research Article that describes how lysosomal status dictates the subcellular localization of the transcription factor TFEB, which promotes lysosomal biogenesis. When lysosomal function is adequate, the mTOR-dependent phosphorylation of TFEB causes the retention of the transcription factor in the cytoplasm. When lysosomal function is inhibited, TFEB no longer interacts with mTOR, is dephosphorylated, and translocates to the nucleus.
