ONLINE COVER This week features a Research Article that shows that the protease Omi inhibits inflammation in microglial cells by inactivating a kinase upstream of extracellular signal–regulated kinases. Mutations in Omi that block its protease activity are associated with inflammation in Parkinson's disease. The image shows staining for a marker of activated astrocytes in a brain section from a mouse expressing protease-deficient Omi. [Image: Qingsong Hu, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hefei, China] |
