ONLINE COVER This week features a Research Article that suggests a role for G6b-B, a receptor that contains inhibitory motifs, in regulating the function of megakaryocytes, which produce platelets. Compared to wild-type mice, mice deficient in G6b-B produce larger, fewer, and less functional platelets, leading to macrothrombocytopenia and a bleeding disorder. The image shows two megakaryocytes near the center of a section of bone marrow. [Image: Wbensmith/Wikimedia Commons] |
