ONLINE COVER This week features a Research Resource demonstrating that the catalytic efficiency of an enzyme critical to fatty acid β-oxidation is increased by a posttranslational modification called S-nitrosylation, which involves the covalent attachment of nitric oxide to cysteine residues. The image shows fatty acid deposition in the liver of a mouse used as a model of obesity, a phenotype that is ameliorated by treatment with a compound that releases nitric oxide.
