The functions of the 75-kilodalton neurotrophin receptor p75NTR have remained enigmatic despite nearly three decades of study. Recent studies reveal that p75NTR is a versatile co-receptor that controls signaling by receptors for multiple ligands that provide repellant guidance cues to developing axons.
