This week’s articles highlight a compound that may be useful for treating cryptosporidiosis and a kinase complex that links cell division to cellular metabolism.
PARASITOLOGY
Targeting a protozoan parasite
Manjunatha et al. report that a pharmacological inhibitor of the Cryptosporidium lipid kinase PI(4)K promotes parasite clearance and improves symptoms in animal models of cryptosporidiosis.
CANCER
Linking cell proliferation to cellular metabolism
Wang et al. found that a kinase complex that promotes cell division and is highly active in some cancers stimulates changes in cellular metabolism that promote cancer cell survival (see also Krall and Christofk).
