Online Cover This week features a Research Article that uncovers a mechanism by which the proinflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor (TNF) exacerbates inflammation in the intestine. Long-term exposure of intestinal epithelial cells to TNF results in the decreased synthesis of gluococorticoids, steroid hormones that inhibit the immune response and alleviate inflammation.
