Online Cover This week features a Research Article that shows that the scaffold protein RACK1 mediates signals by the cytokine RANKL to generate bone-degrading osteoclasts from precursor cells. Knockdown of RACK1 in a portion of the mouse skull resulted in fewer osteoclasts and less bone degradation in response to RANKL, which suggests that RACK1 may be a therapeutic target in the treatment of osteoporosis.
