STKE2006 Mar 07; 2006 AB - The trigger for the process of myelin formation during neural development has long been a mystery. Recent studies suggest that this trigger is the growth factor neuregulin-1, expressed on the surface of axons, which signals through ErbB2 and ErbB3 receptors expressed on the surface of myelin-forming glia.
